Pathway to College Innovation

A Vision for Higher Education Revolution through Implementable Change

At the start of the blog, I seek to capture potential actions that I believe (as of 1.2.2025) can be implemented to improve the outcomes of students, positively impact communities, and create a culture of prosperity for all stakeholders.

  • Adopt competency-based education (currently outcomes-based)
    • Focus on abilities and results and not on tests
    • Perhaps even further to evidence-based - what tangible evidence beyond the college affirms competency
  • Embrace flexible class schedules (Drop fixed 15-week semesters (or quarters))
  • Guarantee a living wage for current, past, and future graduates
  • Offer a concierge-level of service (24x7 and work until resolution) including success coaches that tightly monitor students [similar to what collegiate sports coaches implement - scale]
  • Pay-for-use service (Modify fee schedule for sports, events, and labs)
  • Embrace financial literacy planning as part of the degree
  • Focus on empathy, public/private partnerships, and building networks
  • Optimize programs to help students get out faster and save time
  • Hire for networks (ability to get students to their next step) [if the goal is a job] and hire for productivity [if the goal is research]
  • Develop alternative tuition models (see living wage guarantee, pay-for-use, and program optimization) such as freemium, tier-based models, and subscriptions.
  • Move away from majors and focus on delivering results and building networks
